Wrist Stocks

Wrist Stocks were used in Medieval Europe to confine the hands of prisoners and other captives. Frequently they were used when misbehaving apprentices and other miscreants were being brought before a court for judgement. Wrist stocks were also used to help control prisoners that were being transported long distances. In short they were used much like handcuffs are used today. The prisoners, once securely locked in the Wrist Stocks, could then be lead around on a chain attached to a collar around the prisoners neck. Prisoners and Captives frequently were marched hundreds of miles thus confined. This was an effective method which left the captive able to perform necessary functions such as feeding himself but so restricted his hands that he could not escape captivity.
